Eric Baus & Dorothea Lasky will read in Memorial Hall, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, as part of the University of Massachusetts MFA Program’s Visiting Writers Series.   Baus is author of The To Sound, Tuned Droves &, most recently, Scared Text.   Lasky is author of several volumes of poetry, including Awe, & Black Life; her most recent books are the poetry collection Thunderbird, & a co-edited volume, Open the Door: How to Excite Young People About Poetry.

Poets Peter Gizzi, James Tate, Dara Wier will read from recent work as part of the Amherst Poetry Festival.   All three teach in the M.F.A. Program at the University of Massachusetts here in Amherst.   Tate is winner of the National Book Award & the Pulitizer Prize; his most recent book is The Eternal Ones of the Dream: Selected Poems 1990 2010.   Wier’s most recent volume is You Good Thing.   Gizzi’s most recent volume is Threshold Songs.

Jim Hicks will read from his new book, Lessons from Sarajevo: A War Stories Primer. Hicks is editor of the Massachusetts Review & teaches Comparative Literature at University of Massachusetts.

Mary Jo Salter will read from her new collection of poetry, Nothing by Design.   Salter, who teaches writing at Johns Hopkins University, is author of many volumes of poetry, including Open Shutters & A Phone Call to the Future: New & Selected Poems.   Co-sponsored by the Amherst College Visiting Writers Series.

Join Amherst resident Shirley Vernick in celebrating the publication of her new young adult novel, Remember Dippy.   Vernick is also author of The Blood Lie, which was on the 2012 Best Fiction for Young Adults list from the American Library Association, received the Simon Wiesenthal Once Upon a World Children’s Award, & the Sydney Taylor Honor Book Award.

Join Amherst resident John Hennessy in celebrating the publication of his new collection of poetry, Coney Island Pilgrms.   Hennessy, who teaches at literature at the University of Massachusetts, is author of the previous collection of poetry, Bridge & Tunnel.   His poems have appeared in many journals & anthologies, including Best American Poetry 2013, The Believer, Poetry, Harvard Review, The New Republic, The Huffington Post, & The Yale Review.   He is poetry editor of The Common.
