Help us celebrate the publication of new book by Kym Morrison— Cuba’s Racial Crucible: The Sexual Economy of Social Identities, 1750-2000.   Morrison teaches in the W.E.B. Du Bois Department of African American Studies here at the University of Massachusetts.   She has published in Cuban Studies/ Estudios Cubanos, the Journal of Social History, & Slavery & Abolition.

Deborah Golden Alecson will talk about death, dying & grief.   A poet & educator, Alecson is author of We Are So Lightly Here: A Story about Conscious Dying, Lost Lullaby, & Complicated Grief: A Collection of Poems, among other books.   She teaches “Ethics of Health Care,” “Death, Dying & Bereavement,” & “Spirituality in Life Transitions” for Excelsior College.

Former Amherst resident Gayle Lauradunn will read from her new collection of poetry, Reaching for Air—which has been named a finalist for the Best First Book of Poetry Award by the Texas Institute of Letters.   Lauradunn’s poems have appeared in numerous journals & anthologies.   She was co-organizer of the first National Women’s Poetry Festival held in 1974 at UMass, & part of the collective that published Chomo-Uri: A Women’s Literary & Arts Journal.
