Mystery authors Jim Ciullo, Kate Flora, & Susan Oleksiw will talk about their craft at the Jones Library in Amherst.   Dessert will be provided by the generous efforts of the organizer & attendees. The event is free, but seating is limited, so please register at 413.259.3090 (& press ZERO).   Ciullo is author three thrillers, A Tango in Tuscany, Orinoco &, most recently, Maracaibo.   Among other books, Flora is author of Finding Amy: A True Story of Murder in Maine, & seven Thea Kozak mystery novels, the most recent of which is Stalking Death.   Oleksiw is the author of the Mellingham Mystery series featuring Chief of Police Joe Silva & the Anita Ray series.   Her most recent book is Under the Eye of Kali.

Amherst College professor Catherine Epstein will discuss her new book, Model Nazi: Arthur Greiser & the Occupation of Western Poland at the Frost Library, Amherst College.

Amherst resident John Katzenbach will read at the Sunderland Public Library in Sunderland as part of its Author Series.   Katzenbach is the author of nearly a dozen novels, including The Analyst, The Wrong Man & Hart’s War.   Several of his novels have been made into or are being made into movies.

“Live Lit”   Students in the M.F.A. Program at the University of Massachusetts will read from their recent work.   Evenings usually include a mix of poetry & fiction.

Local poet & University of Massachusetts professor Martín Espada will talk about the evolution of Chilean poet Pablo Neruda as a political poet, his exile at the hands of his own government, his triumphant return, his death in the wake of the 1973 military coup, & his redemption after democracy returned to Chile.   Espada will read from Neruda’s poetry as well as some of his own poems about Neruda & Chile.

“Jubilat/Jones Reading Series”   Steve Healey & Lucy Ives will read from their recent work as part of the jubilat/Jones Reading Series in the Trustees Room at the Jones Library, 43 Amity Street in Amherst.   Healey is the author of two volumes of poetry—most recently, 10 Mississippi.   Ives’ first collection of poetry is Anamnesis.

The reading will be preceded by a ‘Poetry Swap' at 2:00 PM.

POSTPONED Bernadette Mayerwill read at Memorial Hall at the University of Massachusetts as part of the M.F.A. Program’s Visiting Writer Series.   Often associated with the New York School of poets, Mayer has taught at the New School for Social Research & The Poetry Project at St. Mark’s Church.  She is author of numerous collections of poetry, including, Poetry State Forest, Scarlet Tanager; & A Bernadette Mayer Reader.
